A team of 20 HTCNJ volunteers recently spent one week in mid-February in Trujillo, Peru, providing ophthalmology surgery for children at the Instituto Regional de Oftalmologic. (I.R.O.) Dr. Nancy Suarez of the I.R.O. hosted our team for the second year in a row. Our team was led by Dr. Bruce Schnall and Ms. Diane Calesnick, and provided surgery for strabismus, ptosis, cataracts and other pediatric ophthalmic conditions.

The HTCNJ team screened 58 children at the I.R.O., and provided surgery at no charge for 48 children. In addition, several members of the Healing the Children NJ team gave lectures to the doctors and medical students on subjects related to pediatric ophthalmology.
